Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in the Emergency Department at Stony Brook Medicine. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or other assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and communicate patient data to assist in assessment and care planning
  • Participate in the healthcare team and accept delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider
  • Deliver care in accordance with patient care plans, organizational policies, and principles of relationship-based care
  • Plan and manage patient care according to individual needs
  • Interview patients, record medical history and physical condition, and obtain vital signs
  • Provide routine care, observe patients' health, and review medical charts
  • Assist physicians and registered nurses, communicate with patients and families, and perform standard diagnostic procedures
  • Prepare specimens for lab courier, administer medications, and provide wound care
  • Prepare and administer injections and/or enemas, assist with patient comfort, and monitor catheters
Working Conditions

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and/or tissue, as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries, and illness. You may be exposed to and required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency, and crisis situations.

Qualifications
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State
  • Preferred: Acute care, phlebotomy, EKG, and/or IV experience
