Job Summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Emergency Department team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or other assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and communicate patient data to assist in assessment and care planning.
  • Participate in the healthcare team and accept delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider.
  • Deliver care in accordance with patient care plans, organizational policies, and principles of relationship-based care.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans based on individual patient needs.
  • Interview patients, record medical history, and physical condition.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration.
  • Provide routine patient care, including wound care and administering medications.
  • Assist physicians and registered nurses with patient care.
  • Communicate with patients and their families.
  • Perform standard diagnostic procedures, including EKG, phlebotomy, venipuncture, PFT, and Doppler.
  • Prepare specimens for lab courier.
Requirements
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
  • Acute care, phlebotomy, EKG, and/or IV experience preferred.
Working Conditions

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and/or tissue, as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries, and illness.

May be exposed to and required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency, and crisis situations.

Subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Benefits

Stony Brook Medicine offers a competitive salary range of $43,768 per year, with additional benefits including location pay, geography pay, and inconvenience pay.

Full-time CSEA positions receive an additional $3,400 for location, and full-time evening or night shift positions receive $575 for inconvenience.

Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment, and all hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.

This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

This function/position may be designated as "essential," which means that when the hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
