Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician I role at Cuyahoga Community College ensures the safety and security of an academic laboratory in compliance with government regulations and ACFEF accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with ordering and receiving supplies.
  • Maintains equipment safety training records and inventory controls.
  • Prepares and monitors supplies and equipment, ensuring sanitation and safety standards are met.
  • Secures lab and storage areas when not in use.
  • Assists with room setup and breakdown.
  • Maintains records for and assists in adherence to established operating procedures.
  • Updates MSDS books as required.
  • Assists chef instructors with demonstrations and prepares supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Develops and maintains a cleaning schedule College-wide.
  • Cleans the laboratory, stockroom, and departmental equipment.

Requirements:

  • High School degree or GED.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a restaurant or food service establishment.
  • Skills in keyboarding, basic math, and grammar.
  • Basic skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree with a minimum of two years' experience as a restaurant or food service supervisor.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent talking or hearing.
  • Regular standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, tasting, or smelling, and lifting 60 pounds unassisted.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Moderate to loud noise.
  • Flexible hours to meet the needs of the college's Hospitality facilities.
