Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Associate to join our team at Quest Diagnostics. As a Laboratory Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory's daily operations, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our testing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and organize samples for testing, including sample racking, aliquoting, and tube preparation.
  • Label, handle, process, transport, and store specimens in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify sample problems and assist in resolving them in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare testing equipment and assist with preventive maintenance, notifying technical staff of any equipment issues.
  • Assist licensed personnel in pre-analytical and post-analytical testing activities, excluding trainees.
  • Prepare pre-analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed volume measuring devices, submitting documentation for approval.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of reagents or media using established procedures, formulas, stock solutions, and fixed volume measuring devices.
  • Manage inventory of consumable items, including reagents and supplies, ordering, unpacking, logging, dating, and storing them upon receipt.
  • Sort and accession incoming specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), delivering them to designated testing platforms or departments.
  • Perform data entry or transcribe data from previously recorded results to the computer for data reduction and preparation for licensed personnel's review.
  • Tally workload data and prepare reports as requested.
  • Assist in the performance of quality control procedures.
  • Prepare protocols/logs or other appropriate documents.
  • Identify specimen problems and demonstrate ability to resolve or elevate to licensed personnel.
  • Assist licensed personnel with performance of validation verifications and other Research and Development (R&D) activities, as applicable.
  • Train other Lab Associates and support Training Programs, where applicable.
  • Take initiative in suggesting improvements to efficiency and productivity, providing consistent feedback, and being a resource for process improvement.
  • Demonstrate leadership through accountability and collaboration in daily activities.
  • Answer phones, transfer calls, or take accurate messages, maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Ensure laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized, complying with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices, and using personal protective equipment as required.
Requirements
  • 2-3 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 1-10 pounds frequently, 11-25 pounds occasionally, and 26-50 pounds seldom, without assistance.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
  • Good eye and hand coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong typing skills desirable.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with management, co-workers, and clients.
  • Other automation skills helpful.
Education

Bachelor's Degree (required).

License/Certifications
