Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Pediatric Surgeon to serve as the Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program in the Department of Surgery at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the pediatric trauma program and staff, as well as establishing a successful clinical practice in general pediatric surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching: The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of pediatric surgery.
  • Research: This position will require the establishment of a successful research program in partnership with other disciplines, leading to independent funding as an investigator.
  • Clinical: The faculty will lead the pediatric trauma program and staff, with responsibility for day-to-day operations and coordination with pediatric trauma staff regarding patient care and performance improvement.
  • Other: The faculty member will serve on departmental and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field.
Requirements
  • Must be board certified/board eligible in general surgery and pediatric surgery.
  • Completion of ACGME-approved fellowship in pediatric surgery.
  • Ability to work in a complex, matrixed environment with high emotional intelligence.
  • Commitment to teaching and practice in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Board eligibility or certification in pediatric critical care.
  • Prior experience in pediatric trauma administration.
