Compensation: $25,000 Sign-On Bonus available for eligible candidates.
The Pediatric Echo Educator collaborates closely with the Sonographer Supervisor/Technical Director and Program Director to foster professional growth and provide educational leadership. This role is essential in delivering clinical teaching experiences for student echocardiographers, new hires, and seasoned staff echocardiographers. The educator is responsible for empowering staff to achieve optimal outcomes, focusing on image quality, operational efficiency, and exceptional service standards.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- RDCS, PE certification is mandatory.
- Current RDCS, FE certification is required within 24 months of employment.
Ongoing Employment Requirements:
- Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification.
- Maintaining RDCS, PE and RDCS, FE certifications is essential.
Required Experience:
A minimum of 7 years as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer specializing in Pediatric Cardiology is necessary.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in a Level I Trauma Center or an academic medical center is advantageous.
Educational Background:
Graduation from a minimum of a 2-year JRC Accredited Program in Cardiac Sonography or a Bachelor's degree in sonography is required.
Preferred Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, along with prior experience as a sonographer educator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and tailor orientation programs for student clinical rotation candidates and new hires.
- Develop training schedules for student clinical trainees and new hires.
- Create and deliver specialized lectures using advanced presentation tools.
- Facilitate ongoing educational opportunities for staff while promoting core values and customer service excellence.
Supervisory Duties:
Oversee students and new hires during their training.
Additional Requirements:
- Promote best practices through education for students and newly hired pediatric echocardiographers, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
- Coordinate clinical rotation schedules for students.
- Expected to dedicate at least 75% of work hours performing duties as a pediatric echocardiographer.
Age-Specific Groups Served: As appropriate based on unit assignment.
Physical and Emotional Requirements:
- Physical: Ability to lift required weights and manage exposure to potentially hazardous substances.
- Activities: Prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motions.
- Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities.
- Emotional: Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and frequent customer interactions.
This position is integral to the success of the Pediatric Noninvasive Cardiology team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health.
