The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to join our Property, Science, Industry and Technology team in South Africa. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be based in Durban and work on a variety of projects, including property development, infrastructure, and construction engineering.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a leading role in the structural engineering design of projects, working closely with designers of other disciplines to produce coordinated designs. You will also be responsible for managing the production of models, drawings, reports, and specifications to budgets and deadlines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the structural engineering design of projects
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to carry out hands-on design
  • Liaising with collaborators and clients from inception to completion
  • Managing the production of models, drawings, reports, and specifications
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others
  • Contributing to business development activities

We are looking for a candidate with strong technical experience in structural engineering and a broad range of hands-on experience of different structural forms, construction materials, design stages, and project sectors. You should also have experience in working within a multidisciplinary engineering team and have an appreciation for the role and interactions of all engineering services required to execute a project.

Requirements include:

  • Be degree qualified and registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA or equivalent
  • Have a minimum of 6 years of industry experience
  • Be committed to your own professional development and involved in the mentoring and development of junior staff
  • Have a strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles
  • Be conversant with design and building codes
  • Have experience of delivering within internal and external commercial targets
