STARTING PAY: $29.00 per hour

SUMMARY:

The Airport Operations Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role in managing both airside and landside activities, ensuring the smooth execution of daily operations at Tweed-New Haven Airport. This position acts as a representative of management during routine operational scenarios, particularly in their absence, and must adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.

This role operates under the direct guidance of the Airport Operations Manager, allowing for independent decision-making in urgent situations, particularly when immediate action is required.

In addition to overseeing daily operations, the Airport Operations Shift Supervisor is tasked with complex responsibilities related to maintaining the airport's FAR Part 139 Operating Certificate. This includes conducting airfield inspections, ensuring compliance with various regulations, leading operations staff during shifts, and monitoring updates to federal, state, and local regulations. The supervisor is also responsible for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) duties during assigned shifts, and must be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a liaison for airport management with tenants and stakeholders regarding both routine and exceptional matters.
  • Conduct safety inspections of airside operations and maintain necessary compliance records.
  • Identify and address any airfield or landside hazards promptly.
  • Coordinate construction and maintenance activities to uphold airport safety standards.
  • Issue Notices to Air Missions (NOTAM) and airfield condition reports.
  • Maintain accurate airport records as required.
  • Respond to aircraft emergencies and coordinate with fire rescue services.
  • Ensure effective execution of the Airport Snow and Ice Control Plan.
  • Document irregular occurrences through the airport's reporting systems.
  • Oversee landside operations, including vehicle traffic and terminal compliance.
  • Conduct security inspections and monitor access control systems.
  • Assist in training airport tenants and stakeholders as needed.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by airport management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in airport management or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in airside operations and ARFF at a Part 139 Certificated Airport is required.
  • Previous experience in airport snow removal operations is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise effectively in a complex environment.
  • Strong public communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to maintain a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and lift over 75 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
