The U.S. Army is one of the three military departments reporting to the Department of Defense. It consists of two components: the Active component and the Reserve component. The Army Reserve offers flexibility to pursue individual goals and passions while serving the country part-time. The Army Active component performs day-to-day military operations with a specialized skillset in a specific field.
