Job Purpose:

The Land Grant Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of community outreach and education programs related to land-grant initiatives. This includes planning, grants development and management, and support functions to promote institutional land grant capacity. The successful candidate will report directly to the LGP Director and work closely with the land grant team to achieve program goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage grant proposals to secure funding for land grant programs
  • Conduct research and review grant announcements to identify potential funding opportunities
  • Develop and implement community outreach and education programs to address youth, family, community, natural resource, and environmental issues
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including tribal and state organizations, to develop and implement program initiatives
  • Teach Animal Science courses and perform assessment and student evaluations as assigned by the Director
  • Develop and manage land grant programs at NTU instructional sites and work towards operating satellite offices
  • Prepare educational materials, evaluation instruments, and marketing information to support program initiatives
  • Develop and submit work plans, reports, and other documents as required by the Director
  • Provide guidance and direction to students, volunteers, and community members in land grant-related projects and activities
  • Work closely with 1862, 1890, and/or 1994 land grant institutions, USDA agricultural research service, and other organizations to build and maintain a strong land grant program
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Education, Animal Science, Range Science, Plant Science, Nutritional Science, Veterinary Science, Family Studies and Human Development, or related field
  • Extensive experience in grant writing, grant management, and reporting
  • Minimum of five years of satisfactory, progressive work experience in land grant and/or extension work
  • Evidence of working with culturally and socially diverse populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language and preferably in the Navajo language
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Agricultural Leadership Education & Communications, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture Sciences, Nutrition & Food Sciences, Plant Physiology & Microbiology, Soil & Crop Sciences, Molecular & Environmental Plant Science, Water Management & Hydrological Science, or closely related field
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Experience in conducting action research leading to peer-reviewed publication
  • Ability to speak and write in the Navajo language

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and communities. A strong understanding of land grant initiatives and experience in grant writing and management are essential for this role.
