General Job Overview:
The IEP Coordinator collaborates with district personnel, students, and families to implement, manage, and oversee the Special Education Individualized Education Plans tailored to the needs of students with disabilities and those identified as gifted within the Roswell Independent School District.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the transition of students from other districts, including drafting temporary Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Organize and lead IEP meetings as necessary, including initial placement discussions, annual reviews, three-year re-evaluations, interim assessments, Extended School Year planning, transition strategies, manifestation determination meetings, and formalizing transfer IEPs.
- Assess the IEP process and its content to ensure compliance with standards set by various regulatory bodies.
- Facilitate the creation of transition plans that outline the necessary support and services for students with disabilities as they move from home to school, between educational levels, and into independent or supported adult living.
- Advise parents on Special Education policies, regulations, procedures, referrals, placements, IEP team recommendations, and suggested educational strategies for their children.
- Provide technical assistance to Special Education staff, building administrators, and general education staff regarding Special Education regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Support professional development initiatives as required by the Special Services Department.
- Carry out additional relevant tasks as assigned to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation protocols of the District and notify appropriate authorities when maintenance or repairs are needed to uphold established standards.
- Exhibit knowledge of state and federal regulations related to Pre K through grade 12 Special Education programs.
- Demonstrate understanding of the procedural safeguards available to parents of children with disabilities.
- Show the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Be adaptable and capable of prioritizing tasks while keeping accurate and detailed records.
- Report to work punctually and fulfill a minimum of 7.25 hours of work each day.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- To succeed in this role, an individual must communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; prioritize, organize, and manage time efficiently; and work autonomously with little oversight.
- May be required to perform other related functions as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
- Current New Mexico Educator's License, Level III preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field required.
- A minimum of five years of experience in the Special Education field.
- Valid Driver's license and Car Insurance (if traveling between sites).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, lift and carry (up to 40 pounds), climb stairs, reach, squat, kneel, and have full mobility of fingers/hands. Moving light furniture may be necessary unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed upon without causing undue hardship to the district.
Safety and Health:
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.)
Equipment/Material Handled:
Must be proficient in operating, or willing to learn to operate, multimedia equipment and current technology as required.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work in various noise levels and temperatures. Interruptions are routine, requiring flexibility and patience. Self-motivation is essential to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be necessary, and site visits may be required. Occasional work under stressful conditions may occur.
