Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) serves as a pivotal Registered Nurse equipped with a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution that offers a specialized CNL program. This role emphasizes unique competencies in clinical leadership, management of care environments, and oversight of clinical outcomes. The CNL operates within the clinical microsystem, which encompasses functional front-line units such as hospital departments, outpatient facilities, or home health services, to enhance care delivery processes and dynamics. Collaborating with healthcare team members and leadership, the CNL coordinates care, optimizes resource management, and evaluates data with a strong focus on quality, patient safety, and favorable outcomes. This role is designed to align seamlessly with Wellstar's Nursing Professional Practice Model and Care Delivery Model, drawing from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's guidelines on CNL education and practice.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
CLINICAL LEADERSHIP - Maintain CNL certification and pursue ongoing education in CNL practice. - Actively seek new knowledge and skills as patient needs and healthcare systems evolve. - Uphold healthcare ethics and advocate for patients. - Serve as a resource for patients, the healthcare team, and the nursing profession. - Demonstrate continuous clinical leadership. - Foster communication, relationship building, and team engagement daily. - Address issues proactively and focus on quality, patient safety, and outcomes. - Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members. - Implement organizational LEAN management principles, including team input and process evaluations. - Support shared governance to ensure nursing's voice is represented in the organization. - Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and care protocols.
CARE ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT - Understand healthcare systems as integrated care delivery processes. - Optimize microsystem care processes to better serve patients and teams. - Coordinate and manage microsystem teams effectively. - Implement evidence-based practices to enhance care quality. - Utilize healthcare informatics and technology to assess and drive necessary changes. - Ensure appropriate utilization and delegation of nursing resources through audits and observations.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Promote clinical and professional growth among nursing staff through mentorship and support. - Model professional nursing standards and advocate for the nursing profession. - Act as a resource for both experienced and novice nurses in care delivery. - Complete initial professional competency assessments and required education.
CLINICAL OUTCOMES MANAGEMENT - Focus on disease management and risk anticipation for the microsystem. - Ensure accountability for quality and safety outcomes in alignment with established standards.
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in Nursing (MS, MSN, DNP) from an accredited institution with a recognized CNL program. Required certifications include Registered Nurse (Single State), RN - Multi-state Compact, Basic Life Support, and Clinical Nurse Leader certification from the Commission of Nurse Certification. A minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience is required, along with progressive involvement in direct patient care and staff education.
