Your Role

As the Operations Manager based at our facility, you will report directly to the Facility Manager and be responsible for overseeing the operational duties and requirements at the Covanta Montgomery Energy from Waste (EFW) facility. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Efficiently organizing daily operations and supervising the work of all operational staff.
  • Providing guidance to maintain optimal boiler and turbine performance.
  • Managing and executing established training programs for operators and technical staff.
  • Coordinating daily schedules and stepping in for Shift Supervisor coverage when necessary.
  • Ensuring the facility is prepared for unusual situations while maintaining safe and efficient daily operations.
  • Conducting thorough inspections of boilers and machinery to meet performance targets.
  • Compiling and overseeing various reports at both the plant and corporate levels.
  • Adhering to environmental, health, and safety protocols and permit requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a B.S. in Engineering or Business Management, or have 10+ years of managerial experience in plant operations as a substitute for a degree.

Key qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a Power Plant setting, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • General knowledge or experience in industrial safety.
  • Maintenance experience with rotating and electrical generation (turbine generator) equipment.
  • Familiarity with mass burn combustion practices and boiler water/cooling tower treatment programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work off-hours to support shifts as needed.

Additionally, the successful candidate should be able to:

  • Tolerate moderate extremes in temperature, confined spaces, and perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Stand, walk, crouch, crawl, and kneel frequently, as well as wear a full-face air-purifying respirator.
