Clarke Schools for Hearing & Speech is seeking a skilled Listening and Spoken Language Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing and use listening and spoken language.

About the Job

This role requires a Master's degree in Deaf Education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language, as well as a MA Department of Education License as a Teacher of the Deaf. We are looking for someone with teaching experience, knowledge of how public schools operate, and expertise in curriculum, instruction, and assessment for students who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by students with hearing loss in regular classrooms and communicate effectively with teachers and families.
  • Assess the needs of client schools and provide guidance on developing effective support systems for students with hearing loss.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of students with hearing loss, recommending modifications and accommodations as needed.
  • Work with reading specialists, SLPs, and other staff to understand the impact of hearing loss on students and develop strategies to support them.
  • Provide direct service to students individually or in small groups, monitoring their progress and adapting instruction as needed.
  • Evaluate physical environments to ensure maximum access to auditory and visual information, and troubleshoot any difficulties that arise.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other meetings, contributing to the development of individualized education plans for students with hearing loss.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Deaf Education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language.
  • MA Department of Education License as a Teacher of the Deaf.
  • Teaching experience with students who are deaf or hard of hearing and use listening and spoken language.
  • Knowledge of how public schools operate and common modifications and accommodations for students with hearing loss.
Salary and Benefits
