Position Overview
The Chief of People and Operations will oversee the daily functions of the organization, playing a vital role in ensuring that staff and corps members have the essential tools and resources to make a significant impact on students. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about fostering a positive culture, is detail-oriented, and thrives in collaborative environments. The successful candidate will be committed to developing equitable operational policies and processes within a mission-driven organization that collaborates with AmeriCorps members, students, and educational institutions to enhance youth educational outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Chief of People and Operations will manage all office-related matters, including technology, financial oversight, vendor relationships, and facility management. This role will also significantly influence site culture and employee experience through recruitment, onboarding, and collaboration with the HR team to address personnel needs, compliance, and performance management. Additionally, the Chief will lead and support various site-wide events throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

Site Operations
  • Manage all aspects of office operations and space utilization, ensuring effective communication and documentation.
  • Enhance operational processes to ensure smooth and efficient site functionality.
  • Act as a resource for staff and AmeriCorps members regarding operational inquiries and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Ensure the office is well-stocked with necessary supplies and materials.
  • Maintain relationships with building management and vendors.
Budget and Finance Management
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for the site.
  • Monitor budget tracking to facilitate strategic financial decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and timely processing of expense reports and invoices.
Human Resources and Compliance
  • Serve as the primary contact for staff benefits and HR policies.
  • Oversee health and safety processes and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage the accommodations process and employee relations.
Talent Acquisition
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to implement fair hiring practices.
  • Oversee onboarding processes for new staff members.
Corps Member Operations
  • Support AmeriCorps members with understanding benefits and HR policies.
  • Assist in compliance and engagement processes.
Site Collaboration
  • Support site-wide events and service projects.
  • Engage with the City Year national network for best practices.
Support for the Executive Director
  • Provide administrative support, including calendar management and meeting coordination.
  • Act as the primary contact for inquiries directed to the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and project management skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to equitable practices. Experience with City Year or AmeriCorps is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with experience, with a starting salary of $75,000. Full-time employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans.
