The Museum of Flight is seeking a Chief of People Operations who excels in cultivating meaningful connections, designing innovative programs, and advocating for diverse and inclusive workplaces. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture centered around people.

In collaboration with the VP of People & Culture, you will lead a dedicated People Operations team to attract and recruit exceptional talent, develop programs that resonate with the Museum's vision, mission, and values, and partner with organizational leaders on talent strategies to fulfill our commitment to "inspire all through the limitless possibilities of flight."

The Chief of People Operations plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of The Museum of Flight by overseeing the strategic direction, planning, coordination, administration, and evaluation of the human resources function. This position is responsible for creating and ensuring the effective implementation of systems, policies, and processes related to workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee development, engagement, legal compliance, employee relations, compensation, and benefits.

Key Responsibilities

The following outlines the primary responsibilities for this position. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Manage the administration of human resources programs, including compensation, benefits, performance management, and employee relations.
  2. Develop and implement policies and processes that align with the Museum's people strategy and compliance requirements.
  3. Design and execute talent acquisition strategies that reflect the Museum's commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  4. Create programs aimed at enhancing employee retention and engagement.
  5. Foster equity-centered leadership practices and develop training programs to meet diversity and inclusion goals.
  6. Oversee the implementation of training and development initiatives for staff and volunteers.
  7. Provide guidance to senior leaders on performance management and complex HR matters.
  8. Conduct research on best practices in performance management and develop supporting tools.
  9. Direct compensation and benefits programs that align with organizational values and industry standards.
  10. Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor workforce trends and performance.
  11. Collaborate with safety and security teams to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  12. Guide the development of internal HR policies and procedures.
  13. Manage departmental budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  14. Facilitate professional development opportunities for the People Operations team.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Ten years of HR generalist experience with a focus on developing people-centered policies and programs.
  • Five years of HR management experience with a track record of supervising and developing staff.
  • Experience in non-profit organizations is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of HR strategy, talent acquisition, employee engagement, and total rewards.
  • Strong knowledge of organizational effectiveness, workforce management, and employee relations.
  • Thorough knowledge of local and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Work Environment

This position typically requires a standard work week, with the possibility of additional hours based on organizational needs. Onsite attendance is essential to fulfill certain responsibilities.
