Position Summary
The Chief People and Culture Officer is a crucial executive leader, tasked with the formulation and implementation of extensive People Operations (human resources) and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives that resonate with the overarching business objectives and strategic vision of the organization. This role requires a blend of strategic insight and practical execution, with a robust understanding of leadership, employee relations, DEIA, labor relations, conflict resolution, employee benefits, compensation, and performance management.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with a minimum of three days onsite. This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours for events and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
People, Talent, and Strategic Leadership:
- Design and execute a multi-year human capital strategy that aligns with organizational objectives and cultivates a positive workplace culture.
- Foster an environment of belonging, excellence, inclusivity, and innovation through effective staff engagement and onboarding initiatives.
- Oversee the management of People budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the CFO and CBSO to create a compensation framework that enhances the organization’s overall compensation strategy.
- Guide the People Operations team in adopting best practices, policies, and procedures for talent management and employee relations.
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations at all levels.
- Advise senior leadership on the implications of People policies.
- Work closely with the Associate Director of People and Culture to address employee relations and staff development.
- Maintain accurate documentation and conduct regular compliance training.
- Facilitate transparent communication regarding benefits and organizational updates.
- Lead the development of performance management systems that enhance staff engagement and career growth.
- Organize bi-annual leadership events to foster team collaboration and performance reviews.
- Collaborate with the Associate Director of DEIA to develop a strategic plan that promotes a culture of belonging.
- Integrate DEIA principles into all People Operations functions.
- Work with the Senior Leadership Team to cultivate a brand-aligned culture that supports diversity and inclusion.
- Establish practices that enhance staff experiences and promote engagement.
- Provide leadership to the DEIA team in implementing and evaluating inclusion practices.
- Conduct semi-annual staff engagement surveys to gather feedback and improve processes.
- Communicate updates to staff and leadership regarding organizational initiatives.
- Encourage collaboration across departments to explore innovative revenue opportunities.
- Support high-visibility events and serve as a senior leader on duty as needed.
- Promote a culture that empowers staff to uphold the organization’s mission.
- Contribute to a consistent standard of customer service across all departments.
- Engage in anti-racism initiatives and support the operationalization of DEIA strategies.
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in Human Resources, Equity and Inclusion, and Workforce Development, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing People Strategies.
- Demonstrated success in fostering positive organizational culture and staff engagement.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Experience in developing training programs focused on restorative practices.
- Thorough understanding of employment laws and compliance.
- Advanced degree preferred; relevant certifications desired.
