Position Overview

The City of New York is seeking a dedicated AI Research Specialist to join the Bureau of Management Analysis & Planning. This role is pivotal in supporting the Department's mission to enhance public safety through innovative research and data-driven decision-making.

About the Bureau

The Bureau of Management Analysis and Planning (MAP) is integral to the Fire Department's operations, focusing on the assessment and enhancement of strategic objectives and emergency response initiatives. The Analytics team within MAP is responsible for utilizing advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior leadership in making informed, evidence-based decisions by effectively communicating research findings and progress.
  • Identify and prioritize research areas that align with organizational goals and emerging trends.
  • Foster collaborations with external partners, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to drive innovative research initiatives.
  • Lead the development of advanced algorithms, models, and methodologies to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of research methodologies and outcomes, facilitating the application of research findings to real-world scenarios.
  • Provide mentorship and inspire a collaborative research environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A doctorate degree in a relevant field of physical, biological, environmental, or social science, along with one year of supervisory or research experience; or
  • A master's degree in a relevant field and three years of substantial research experience; or
  • Equivalent education and experience that meet the above criteria.

All candidates must have at least a master's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of two years of applicable research experience.
