Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shipping and Receiving Operations Manager to join our team at OSI Group. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient movement of materials and finished products from receipt to shipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Resource Allocation: Plan and allocate resources (equipment, personnel, materials, and systems) to achieve performance targets and ensure compliance with company, customer, and government requirements.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory accuracy, releases, inbounds/outbounds, and claim resolution with cold storage facilities and freight forward warehouses.
  • Yard Operations: Oversee the movement and storage of trailers in the yard, including spotting duties.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document daily shipping and receiving activities and review results against established targets, reporting variances during on-the-floor and review meetings.
  • Supervisory Duties: Perform all supervisory activities, including scheduling, performance management, hiring, discipline, coaching, training, and development, and termination recommendations.
  • Forklift Fleet Management: Monitor and maintain the forklift fleet to ensure proper functionality and operational safety.
  • Load Scheduling: Schedule and document all incoming and outgoing loads, working closely with distribution centers, Corporate Logistics, and transportation companies to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods.
  • Problem-Solving: Utilize focused improvement tools to address root causes of failures and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Shift Transitions: Facilitate seamless handoffs and communicate key information to peers, team members, and Production Management.
  • Safe Work Environment: Maintain a safe work environment by having safe work instructions, practices, and procedures in place, ensuring employees are trained to understand and comply with those procedures, and applying corrective action consistently when required.
  • Quality and Food Safety: Ensure compliance with all quality and food safety programs through regular adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety checks (HACCP), and product quality checks conducted according to organization policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities and recommending changes within own area of responsibility.
Requirements
  • Education: Four-year college degree in business management, production operations management, agricultural science, food science, or equivalent communication and analytical ability acquired through work experience.
  • Experience: At least two years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Skills: Working knowledge of good manufacturing practices, hazard analysis and critical control points, lean manufacturing, and other food safety, quality, and manufacturing principles.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Leadership: Ability to work with employees at all levels, motivate direct reports, mentor, and coach individuals, and identify short- and long-term development needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities at one time using effective organizational skills and judgment in an environment of frequently changing circumstances.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically using Word to create and modify documents, Excel to record data and calculate results, and Outlook to communicate internally and externally.
  • SAP Knowledge: Working knowledge of SAP business software desired.
  • Work Environment: Work is generally performed within a manufacturing environment subjected to temperatures of cold and warm, with standard office equipment available, along with plant manufacturing environment.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen.
