The Licensed Military Family Counselor is a qualified mental health expert who utilizes discretion and independent judgment to deliver essential information, coaching, training, and education to Service Members and their families. This role involves providing direct, non-medical, brief, solution-focused counseling services to individuals, couples, families, and groups dealing with common life challenges such as parenting, relationship issues, stress, personal loss, and the complexities of deployments and reunions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Service Family Centers, Guard and Reserve programs, unit family support staff, and other organizations to create partnerships and connect military families with federal, state, and local resources.
  • Assesses family needs and formulates a recovery plan in alignment with non-medical counseling guidelines.
  • Delivers face-to-face non-medical counseling to families when other resources are unavailable, while making appropriate referrals to military and community services based on the specific needs of families and service members. This includes:
    • Consulting with military leadership and installation service providers as needed.
    • Developing and utilizing approved training and educational materials, advising military leadership on requests for new or revised presentations.
    • Tracking client services and referrals through the designated reporting system.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of all required deliverables through the designated portal, including:
    • Completing the Availability for Services Tool at the beginning and end of each shift to reflect service availability.
    • Submitting all activity forms via the portal within 24 hours of initial client contact, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Aims to achieve a minimum of 7 hours of work per day, including 5 hours of direct client interaction and 3 hours of ancillary contacts. Any obstacles to meeting these goals should be communicated to a supervisor promptly.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a clinically relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Possession of a full license to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist, or Psychologist without restrictions (e.g., LCSW, LISW, MFT, LPC).
  • Ability to obtain a Colorado State license within a specified timeframe.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Capability to obtain NACI security clearance.
  • Understanding of military lifestyle and the issues affecting families.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering effective group presentations.
  • Ability to accurately assess needs and refer to appropriate resources.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with tact and diplomacy.
  • Competence in using computer systems for report creation and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
  • Willingness to travel between various work sites as required.
  • Demonstrated competence in counseling practices.

Estimated Salary/Wage

Up to USD $41.60/Hr.
