Position Overview:
The Counselor for Military Families in Educational Settings will deliver in-person, non-clinical, brief, solution-oriented counseling services to minors facing challenges stemming from typical life events such as family dynamics, emotional stress, personal loss, and transitions related to military service.


Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with educational institutions to foster partnerships and connect military families with federal, state, and local resources, as well as non-profit organizations.
- Assess family needs and develop a tailored support plan in accordance with non-clinical counseling guidelines.
- Provide direct, face-to-face problem-solving counseling to children when other support systems are unavailable, and facilitate appropriate referrals to military and community resources based on the unique needs of families and service members.


Additional Duties:
- Create and/or utilize approved training and educational materials, and provide guidance on requests for new or updated presentations from military leadership.
- Maintain accurate records of services rendered and referrals made through the designated reporting system.


Documentation Requirements:
- Complete the availability tool at the beginning and end of each work shift to accurately reflect service hours.
- Submit all activity forms via the reporting portal within 24 hours of initial client contact, ensuring completeness and accuracy.


Performance Goals:
- Achieve an average of 7 hours of work per day, including 5 hours of direct client interaction and 3 hours of ancillary contacts. Notify supervisors of any obstacles to meeting these goals.


Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant clinical field from an accredited institution.
- Hold and maintain a full, unrestricted license to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist, or Psychologist in any U.S. state or territory.
- A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience working with children in areas such as relationship dynamics, behavioral management, coping strategies, child development, and family transitions is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to obtain necessary security clearance.
- Adapt activities to meet the specific goals of individual children, families, classrooms, or programs.
- Demonstrate responsiveness to the unique needs of the population served, reflecting the values and mission of the program throughout the counselor's engagement with early care and education initiatives.


Physical Requirements:
- The role may require sitting, talking, or listening for extended periods. Occasional physical activities such as walking, standing, or lifting up to 25 pounds may be necessary.
