Medical Officer

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Medical Officer to provide strategic medical leadership and serve as an expert medical and clinical consultant for assigned District Health Directors. This role requires a strong understanding of public health principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic medical leadership and expert medical and clinical consultation to District Health Directors
- Support medical, clinical, and other public health services in the health district
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to design, develop, implement, and evaluate public health programs and systems
- Build relationships, foster teamwork, and communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff, state executives, local governments, community partners, and the general public
- Execute prescribing duties, consult on clinical matters, and carry out delegated statutory authority requiring a physician
- Valid licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine
- Considerable knowledge and experience with administrative and operational practices and principles in support of public health and clinical medicine
- Considerable knowledge and experience in administering public health programs
- Experience providing preventative care and consultative services for infectious diseases
- Experience with providing strategic planning and leadership for public health programs and initiatives
- Experience in preventive medicine or other relevant specialty
- Considerable experience working with local, state, or federal government officials
- Extensive work experience in a public health organization
