Job Title: Systems Engineer I

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer I to join our team. As a key member of our Client Engineering group, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our client-focused systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide operational support for authentication, logging, monitoring, and alerting, including lifecycle management of end-user devices and virtualization platforms, such as Citrix.
  • Monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all operating systems and infrastructure systems' performance to identify, resolve, and communicate issues.
  • Packaging applications and making routine updates to packages when needed.
  • Administer Intune, Jamf, and device enrollment escalations from the Service Desk.
  • Develop automation to reduce administrative costs for routine or bulk tasks.
  • Deploy security remediation steps to protect against vulnerabilities identified by the Information Security team through configuration and patching.
  • Work with application owners to schedule maintenance windows where applicable.
  • On a rotating basis, provide 24/7 on-call support for mission-critical infrastructure systems.
  • Respond to incidents and service outages to restore service interruptions in a timely manner.
  • Control and limit access in compliance with security policies and best practices to maintain system integrity.
  • Create and maintain current and accurate technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Follow and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management.
  • Participate in infrastructure systems Design Reviews.
  • Collaborate and participate in the transformation of legacy workflows.
  • Identify and train in technical areas to develop expertise.
  • Perform or automate planned maintenance after-hours/weekends as required.
Requirements:
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities; or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced skills with server operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows Server or Ubuntu.
  • PowerShell scripting experience.
  • Foundational understanding of Microsoft Active Directory and multiple OSes authenticating to AD.
  • Familiar with network protocols, internet standards, and client-server communication.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting server/client operating systems.
  • 1+ years of experience building and supporting devices and packaging.
  • Advanced skills administering Microsoft Active Directory & Microsoft 365.
  • Must be familiar with App-V or other packaging solutions.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of network protocols, internet standards, and client-server communication.
  • Foundational understanding of enterprise-level virtualization standards, preferably VMware.
  • Broad understanding of interdependencies and strong ability to troubleshoot events (such as access rights or performance) across dissimilar platforms.
  • Intermediate technical knowledge with SCCM/Jamf/AppV.
  • Working knowledge of Jira.
  • Strong understanding of IT automation.
  • Strong understanding/working knowledge of Citrix.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $84,448 to $126,651, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus.
