Role Summary:

The Senior Financial Consultant will be responsible for executing intricate accounting tasks, including oversight of financial reporting, budgeting, and billing for designated grants and contracts. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to research, comprehend, and apply relevant State and Federal regulations and guidelines. Strong analytical and accounting skills are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant and Contract Compliance
  • Understand and manage financial compliance requirements for assigned programs.
  • Participate in training sessions to ensure adherence to federal grant regulations.
  • Research eligibility requirements for expenditures related to each grant.
  • Meet all internal and external reporting deadlines.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist program staff with compliance on cost allocations.
  • Support external audits as needed.
  • Prepare and process invoices for contract reimbursements.
Budget Management
  • Collaborate with the Grants & Contracts Controller to prepare annual budgets.
  • Develop interim funding budget proposals.
  • Train budget managers on financial dashboard tools.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of actual versus budgeted expenditures.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support program staff.
Accounting Practices
  • Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports as required.
  • Review expense coding and authorizations.
  • Prepare journal entries for account adjustments.
  • Record monthly revenue estimates and journal entries.
  • Utilize the financial system to generate reports.
  • Oversee invoice processing for various agency programs.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of data from multiple systems.
  • Assist program staff in developing financial control processes.
Maintain organized records of contracts, billing documents, and financial analyses related to assigned programs.

Additional Duties
Perform other tasks as assigned and recommend improvements to existing processes.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Experience
  • 3-5 years in a nonprofit environment, particularly with federal contracts.
  • Experience in contract billing and budget preparation is preferred.

  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet design.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
