Role Responsibilities

The Lead Sustainability Manager will oversee our external ESG reporting initiatives and spearhead our environmental sustainability efforts associated with new developments and acquisitions. This role involves managing the execution of projects and programs aimed at minimizing operational and embodied carbon emissions, as well as reducing energy, water, and waste consumption. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the annual data collection and report generation for all ESG reporting, including the Annual ESG Report and submissions to the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) and CDP. Collaborating with the ESG Analyst and others to ensure compliance with various frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, etc.) and providing strategic recommendations for reporting enhancements.
  • Identifying and implementing cross-functional sustainability initiatives to achieve the company's sustainability objectives in collaboration with the Vice President of ESG.
  • Supporting the Sustainability Council and ESG Disclosure Committee by assisting in strategy formulation, project execution, and governance.
  • Acting as an internal expert on embodied carbon, working closely with various teams to monitor impacts and share best practices.
  • Managing task forces focused on water and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the quality assurance team to ensure sustainability practices are integrated into policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining relationships with third-party raters and ensuring the accuracy of company data for rankings.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in sustainability, engineering, business, or a related field is required.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in real estate sustainability initiatives and ESG reporting.
  • Extensive experience with GRESB, CDP, GRI, and investor-facing raters is essential.
  • Expertise in GHG accounting is required; SBTi experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong project management capabilities with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Executive presence and leadership qualities.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • LEED AP certification is required.
  • Preferred certifications include Sustainability or ESG Certificate.
