Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our Housing Team. The successful candidate will provide critical support to individuals navigating the housing search process, ensuring a smooth and successful transition to permanent housing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide information and resources to clients throughout the housing search process.
  • Guide clients through the application process and assist with completing necessary paperwork.
  • Act as a client advocate, providing support and guidance throughout the process.
  • Accompany clients on apartment viewings and provide escort services as needed.
  • Enter accurate and timely data into our system, documenting all interactions and assessments with clients.
  • Assist clients with completing applications and paperwork for public entitlements and accompany them on visits to agency offices and treatment programs.
  • Act as a liaison with community and governmental agencies, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, such as setting up household, public transportation, budgeting, shopping, socializing, parenting, and other skills relevant to their rehabilitation goals.
  • Make home visits as needed to provide support and guidance.
  • Provide supportive peer counseling on mental health, substance use, rehabilitation strategies, and harm reduction supports.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, group supervision, and professional development activities as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other consortium partners to provide comprehensive support services.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Knowledge of housing subsidies and supportive housing programs in NYC.
  • Experience working with homeless individuals and people living with health and/or mental health issues and substance use a plus.
  • Excellent customer-service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs and make multiple visits in the community as needed.
  • Sporadic evening or weekend hours may be required.
  • Track record of effective collaboration supporting clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and data-driven reporting.
  • Excellent public-facing customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (or multi-lingual) preferred.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to interacting with and supporting clients.
