Position Overview

The Events Manager is accountable for the meticulous preparation of all event documentation and collaborates with Sales, property departments, and clients to guarantee a consistent and high-quality service throughout the pre-event, event, and post-event phases.

This role primarily manages events of moderate complexity, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to service and back to sales. The Events Manager identifies opportunities to enhance revenue through up-selling and offering additional services to create exceptional events.


Candidate Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years of experience in event management or a related field.
  • OR a 2-year degree from an accredited institution in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related discipline; with at least 1 year of experience in event management or a similar professional area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing Event Logistics and Operations: Ensure events run smoothly by adhering to established protocols, collaborating with team members, and maintaining accuracy.
  • Welcome clients during the event phase and transition to the Event Operations team for detailed execution.
  • Ensure compliance with all standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Verify billing accuracy and conduct reviews with clients before finalizing invoices.
  • Oversee group room allocations and meeting spaces for assigned groups.
  • Identify operational challenges and collaborate with property staff and clients to devise effective solutions.
  • Integrate current trends in event management and design into planning.
  • Act as a liaison between sales representatives and clients throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Participate in client site inspections and assist with the sales process as needed.
  • Solicit feedback from property departments to identify areas for enhancement in the Event Planner's experience.

Providing Exceptional Customer Service:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service throughout the client experience and encourage the same from colleagues.
  • Empower team members to provide excellent service and set a positive example for guest relations.
  • Communicate event details clearly, both verbally and in writing, to clients and property operations.
  • Maintain visibility to clients at all times during the event process.
  • Oversee client experiences from file turnover through the post-event phase.
  • Follow up with clients after events to gather feedback.
  • Address and resolve guest issues and complaints effectively.
  • Utilize personal judgment and expertise to enhance the client experience.
  • Continuously improve customer service by incorporating feedback into action plans.

Leading Event Management Teams:
  • Conduct formal pre- and post-event meetings to review group needs and feedback.
  • Lead meetings for assigned groups to ensure all requirements are met.

Supporting Sales and Marketing:
  • Assist in the sales process and revenue forecasting for client groups.
  • Promote products and services throughout the event lifecycle.

Human Resources Activities:
  • Review guest feedback and satisfaction results with team members.
  • Observe service behaviors and provide constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of corrective action plans.

The salary range for this position is $59,000 to $75,000 annually. Marriott offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health care, 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase plans, paid time off, and various wellness benefits.
