Position Overview
The Event Services Manager plays a crucial role in achieving the catering and banquet objectives that align with the overall success of the hotel. This individual will be tasked with effectively attracting and securing new clientele, as well as providing exceptional service to existing clients and groups as needed. Collaborating closely with the Director of Sales or Director of Catering, the Event Services Manager will strive to meet the hotel's revenue and market share targets across one or more properties. The focus of catering sales may differ based on the specific property assigned (i.e., Social, Corporate, Business, SMERF). Management-level associates are expected to dedicate sufficient time each workday to fulfill their job responsibilities.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in Catering Sales is preferred.
- Creativity and knowledge of food and beverage services are highly desirable.
- A valid driver's license for the applicable state is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for negotiating, persuading, selling, and influencing other managerial personnel, hotel guests, and corporate clients.
- Experience in professional selling techniques is preferred: opening, probing, supporting, and closing.
- Proficiency in general computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products, is necessary.
- The ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks simultaneously is crucial; strong organizational and presentation skills are required.
- Achieve assigned sales and revenue targets, along with solicitation call objectives.
- Proactively conduct solicitation calls, arrange sales tours, and entertain clients specific to Social, Corporate, Business, or SMERF as relevant to the property.
- Enhance existing relationships with assigned accounts related to Leisure, SMERF, Business Travel (BT), and/or Groups, as applicable.
- Monitor and assess trends within your market segment.
- Approach all interactions with guests and employees in a friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Adhere to Avion Hospitality's established regulations, company standards, catering/meeting standards, and related catering sales metrics.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the hotel's operations and policies, as well as those of applicable departments.
- Ensure timely generation and accuracy of the Daily Event List, Banquet Event Order/Guarantee Sheet, and Ten Day Event Schedule.
- Maintain a strong presence in the local community and industry organizations as applicable.
- Assist in implementing and/or participating in special promotions related to direct sales segments, such as sales blitzes.
- Attend daily, weekly, and monthly meetings, along with any other functions required by management.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the General Manager or Director of Sales.
The work environment for this position is primarily indoors, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, and using fingers for various activities. The role may involve lifting objects up to 10 lbs. and requires effective communication skills, both verbal and auditory.
