The Communication Studies Department at Highline College is seeking part-time faculty members to instruct primarily in-person and hybrid courses on our main campus for the upcoming academic year.

This department, though small, plays a vital role in offering courses such as Introduction to Communication, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, News Writing, and Mass Media, in addition to upper-level general education courses for the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees, including Presentation Skills and Organizational Communication. The department also oversees the Public Speaking Center on campus.

Compensation will vary based on the number of courses taught, initial placement, work experience, and assigned credits. The current compensation range per credit hour is $1,153.31 to $1,234.67. Please consult the collective bargaining agreement for further details.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Instruction: Deliver courses within the Communication Studies Department. Assignments will primarily focus on in-person and hybrid formats on our main campus. Experience in online instruction is advantageous.
  • Engagement: Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives.
  • Professional Growth: Stay current in teaching methodologies and the discipline through ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's degree (or higher) in Communication Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution (pending degrees must be verified).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in Community College Teaching.
  • Background in Public Speaking, Introduction to Communication, Interpersonal Communication, or Organizational Leadership.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Training or experience in curriculum design and assessment.
