Swim Instructor

Are you passionate about teaching others to swim and creating a safe, fun environment in our pools? As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you will play a vital role in helping children and adults learn to be confident and active in the water.

Our Swim Lesson Instructors are provided with a comprehensive curriculum designed to teach and build skills from basic floatation and water movement to advanced stroke technique. You will be responsible for managing classes, planning activities to aid learning, and providing feedback to help our students become the best swimmers they can be.

We are looking for energetic, compassionate individuals who are able to teach, lead, organize, and demonstrate the proper skills needed to swim. If you have a love for aquatics and a desire to make a difference in your community, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding role.

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines and prepared lesson plans
• Build effective relationships with students and parents, and encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules, and refer students and parents to other programs as appropriate
• Maintain records as required, including attendance and progress reports
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled, and follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures

• At least 16 years of age
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent (Achieve within 90 days)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards, and knowledge of swim strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke
• Desire to work with individuals of all ages, and strong organizational, verbal, written, and customer service skills
