Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Professional Development Program (PDP) as a Financial Specialist. As a recent graduate, you will have the chance to develop your skills and knowledge in financial management, working with seasoned professionals and participating in a structured set of learning experiences. You will be responsible for assisting in financial management state systems and processes, contributing to financial state systems and processes, and working with the Finance Manager to implement and conduct financial management system reviews and evaluations. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow with the agency, and we are looking for an ideal candidate who has a desire to learn the technical, administrative, and program management aspects of financial management in the agency.

About the Position

This position is part of the DOT Pathways Recent Graduate Program, which provides up to 24 months of entry-level career development training for participants to learn and apply technical skills to advance the Nation's highway program. As a Financial Specialist in the PDP, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced professionals, participate in developmental assignments, and receive on-the-job training through a structured set of learning experiences. You will also have the chance to work on a variety of projects, including financial management improvements, project funds management, and audit resolution.

Responsibilities

As a Financial Specialist in the PDP, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in financial management state systems and processes.
  • Contributing to financial state systems and processes.
  • Working with the Finance Manager to implement and conduct financial management system reviews and evaluations.
  • Participating in developmental assignments and on-the-job training.
  • Working with a team of experienced professionals to advance the Nation's highway program.


Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Meet the basic qualification standards outlined under the Qualifications section for this series and grade level.
  • Have a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that 2 year time frame.
  • Provide required documentation to verify degree has been, or will be, completed prior to appointment.
