Playground and After School Activities Instructor

Wissahickon Charter School seeks dedicated individuals to oversee student activities during recess and after school hours. The Recess and After School Program Instructors will work from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, providing supervision and guidance at a competitive hourly rate. The role involves leading engaging activities during recess and facilitating a supportive after school environment.
Recess Duties- Design, supervise, and promote engaging recess activities for all students, including games and quiet reading time.
- Ensure students adhere to behavioral standards and maintain a safe environment, intervening in conflicts as necessary.
- Remain actively involved with students outdoors, regardless of weather conditions, while providing indoor options during inclement weather.
- Exhibit enthusiasm and a nurturing attitude towards students during recess.
- Establish a safe and nurturing atmosphere that fosters social, emotional, and academic growth for all students.
- Develop a structured daily schedule that effectively manages time and space for all after school activities.
- Implement consistent routines, rules, and consequences to enhance group management.
- Offer academic support and enrichment through whole group, small group, and individual instruction.
- Monitor homework completion and report any significant academic challenges to the appropriate coordinators and guardians.
- Maintain open communication with coordinators regarding student progress and program needs.
- Record daily attendance and keep organized weekly attendance logs.
- Prepare and distribute snacks for students.
- Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians.
- Ensure cleanliness of the program space at the end of each session, including tidying up after snack time.
- Report any significant social or emotional challenges observed in students to the coordinators and guardians.
- Engage in daily team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Carry a walkie-talkie and whistle during outdoor activities for safety purposes.
- Limit personal cell phone use to emergencies only while supervising students.
- Maintain accurate records in the incident report log as needed.
- Complete incident reports promptly after any occurrences, ensuring copies are sent home with affected students.
- Enjoy working with students and create a fun atmosphere.
- High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with elementary or middle school students, preferably in educational or camp settings.
- Reliable, with a strong attendance record.
- Able to build effective relationships with students.
- Possess all necessary clearances as mandated by law.
- CPR/First Aid training will be provided and is required upon hiring.
- Open to feedback, with a positive outlook and a commitment to continuous improvement.

This position includes two paid breaks during the work hours.
