Recess and After School Program Educator

Recess Responsibilities

  • Design, supervise, and engage students in various recreational activities, including games and quiet reading time.
  • Ensure students adhere to behavioral expectations and maintain safety at all times, addressing conflicts as they arise.
  • Remain actively involved with students outdoors, regardless of weather conditions, with provisions for indoor activities during inclement weather.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and a nurturing attitude towards students during recess.
Afterschool Program Responsibilities
  • Establish and uphold a secure and supportive atmosphere that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Develop a structured daily agenda, managing time and space effectively for all afternoon activities.
  • Implement consistent rituals, rules, and consequences to enhance group management.
  • Provide academic support and enrichment through whole group, small group, and individual interactions.
  • Monitor homework completion and report any significant academic struggles to the appropriate coordinators and guardians.
  • Maintain open communication with the Recess and After School Program Coordinator regarding student progress and needs.
  • Record daily attendance and maintain organized weekly attendance logs.
  • Organize and distribute snack materials.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the afterschool program space at the end of each day.
Additional Expectations (Both Positions)
  • Report observations of students facing social or emotional challenges to the Recess and After School Program Coordinator and guardians.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Carry a walkie-talkie and whistle during outdoor activities for emergency preparedness.
  • Limit cell phone usage to emergencies only while supervising children.
  • Maintain accurate records in the incident report log and complete reports promptly after any incidents.
  • Enjoy working with students and create a fun atmosphere.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with elementary or middle school students, preferably in educational or camp settings.
  • Reliable with a strong attendance record.
  • Able to build effective relationships with students.
  • All necessary clearances required by law, including current FBI clearance, Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance, and proof of a negative TB test.
  • CPR/First Aid training will be provided and is mandatory upon hire.
  • Open to feedback, with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Hours

This position operates from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, including two paid breaks.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $16, with comprehensive employer-covered medical, vision, and dental benefits for the individual.
