Job Summary:

We are seeking a senior-level Distribution Designer to join our team in the greater Portland or Salt Lake City area to support our major electric utility client. The successful candidate will perform field surveys of existing utility poles and underground vaults, collect data from digital records, and apply company, industry, and regulatory standards and specifications to plan the construction, relocation, installation, and/or maintenance of facilities and equipment associated with overhead and underground electrical equipment and utility infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with engineering and design teams to produce and/or review overhead and underground distribution design packages, maintaining industry standards, conformance to client requirements, and providing technical expertise in the field.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of overhead or underground electric utility distribution designs and construction standards, applicable codes, and industry practice to produce reliable and technically sound designs and/or quality control reviews.
  • Review design documents and drawings for accuracy and completeness, addressing any discrepancies or issues identified during the review process.
  • Provide clear and concise comments and justifications where design deficiencies are observed.
  • Review revised designs for incorporation of comments.
  • Identify trends or new issues and raise them for management review along with potential solutions.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with applicable company and client standards and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to junior designers.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of department and company goals.
  • Participate in special projects or tasks as required.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology from an accredited college/university or similar degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in a utility distribution planning function.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
