Patient Care Associate

Job Summary:
The Patient Observer is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing direct observation and care to patients. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct observation and care to patients, including assisting with personal activities, setting up food trays, and feeding patients as directed.
- Assist patients with positioning, turning, mobilization, and ambulation as needed.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) at the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
- Document aspects of care in the electronic health record (EHR) or on the appropriate paper downtime form.
- Respond promptly to bed, chair, and virtual monitor alarms.
- Maintain a safe and clean patient care environment.
- Adhere to Infection Prevention standards and practice guidelines.
- Participate in quality and safety initiatives on the unit.
Requirements:
- Previous customer service or patient care experience preferred.
- Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak, and write accurately.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to lift and transport patients, and push and pull equipment, using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self.
- Ability to master basic computer skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Working Conditions:
The Patient Observer will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The role requires standing, walking, and lifting, as well as the ability to work in a variety of settings, including patient rooms and common areas.
Education and Training:
The Patient Observer will receive training and education on patient care, safety, and infection prevention. The role requires ongoing learning and professional development to stay current with best practices and industry standards.
