Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Des Plaines Material and Supply. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic testing, analyzing results, and repairing/ replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking, lighting systems, and other related components.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of all aspects of diesel vehicle maintenance and repair, proficiency with related computer diagnostic equipment and software, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and troubleshoot diesel vehicles, commercial motor vehicles, and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles, commercial motor vehicles, and equipment
  • Maintain parts and inventory
  • Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles
  • Test drive vehicles to gauge performance
  • Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist on Commercial Motor Vehicles
  • Ensure cleanliness of the shop
  • Supervise other shop mechanics

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of diesel vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Proficiency with computer diagnostic equipment and software
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals
  • Ability to read work orders
  • Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion

Certifications:

  • Certified Diesel Tech preferred
  • A/C Certified preferred
  • DOT Air Brakes Certified preferred
  • Knowledge of diagnostic testing on diesel vehicles and engines
  • Electrical (wiring) knowledge preferred
  • Aptitude for mathematics and science

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift/Carry up to 55 pounds frequently
  • Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
