Job Summary

As a Health Information Specialist at the University of Michigan, you will play a critical role in providing medical record support in an academic administrative setting. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent technical and business vocabulary skills, as well as proficiency in computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create schedules for all providers in the clinic
  • Enter schedule templates in Cadence and make changes as needed
  • Request, track, and obtain new and return patient records for Urology
  • Create new appointment requests via MiChart referral shell process
  • Handle rescheduling of patients due to clinic closures
  • Draft and type emails, letters, MiChart notes, memos, faxes, reports, and other documents required by the ambulatory urology team
  • Screen, prioritize, and/or respond to phone calls, mail, MiChart notes, faxes, and emails, and handle independently as appropriate
  • Fax/image all outside records into MiChart, including signature documents
  • Upload outside CD images into Life Image system
  • Process Litho Link lab requests and make appointments
  • Process urine culture results via MiChart in-basket pool when urine culture results are finalized
  • Outgoing referrals
  • Scan paper charts into MiChart
  • Process portion of medical record releases
  • GLHC Administrator
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary
  • 2-3 years of experience
  • Knowledge of PCs and desktop software
  • Proficient user in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Basic experience with email and calendaring systems
  • Proficient in grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Basic medical terminology competency is necessary
  • Demonstrates friendly, warm, articulate telephone manner with a clear, well-modulated speaking voice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
  • Ability to manage stress effectively
  • A minimum of two years of clerical experience necessary
