Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Information Analyst - Vital Statistics Specialist to join our team at the University of Michigan. As a key member of our Revenue Cycle - Mid Service Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate submission of vital statistics data to the State of Michigan.

Your primary focus will be on collecting and analyzing medical information, preparing and submitting data to the State, and maintaining a good working relationship with the Washtenaw County Clerk, Vital Records Office, and the State of Michigan Departments of Community Health.

You will interact directly with parents/guardians of newborn deliveries, collecting county/state required medical and statistical information, and work under fast-paced circumstances to meet deadlines. Your analytical skills and attention to detail will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the data you collect and submit.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work independently or as part of a team, with minimal supervision, and will be expected to maintain active certification and American Health Information Management Association membership.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze medical information from various sources, including patient records and computer applications
  • Prepare and submit vital statistics data to the State of Michigan in the required reporting format
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Washtenaw County Clerk, Vital Records Office, and the State of Michigan Departments of Community Health
  • Interact directly with parents/guardians of newborn deliveries, collecting county/state required medical and statistical information
  • Work under fast-paced circumstances to meet deadlines and ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data collected and submitted
Requirements
  • Knowledge of standard medical terminology and ability to read and understand complex medical documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately collect and analyze medical information
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office for work-related tasks
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Health Information Technology or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or Healthcare Administration
  • Registration with the State of Michigan as a Notary Public
  • Knowledge of legal requirements for reporting births
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
