Job Summary

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Von Voigtlander Women's Clinic provides consultation, comprehensive treatment, and a broad range of services and procedures for patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies and for a broad range of gynecologic services.

The clinic team includes physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dieticians, as well as a multifunctional administrative/clerical team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective, and individualized nursing care in an ambulatory care OBGYN clinic setting under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Provide nursing care according to the established institutional and unit policies.
  • Provide the delivery of culturally sensitive, age-specific team-based care models in delivering nursing care for primary care patients, including adult medicine, pediatric, and OB/GYN patient populations.
  • Perform nurse visits (in person/video visit)
  • Assist with in-clinic procedures including, but not limited to, Laminaria's and other gynecology procedures.
  • Accurate and efficient documentation of nursing care.
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources.
  • Observe patient status, report, and document changes and nursing care given.
  • Administer and document medications according to established standards.
  • Initiate appropriate measures in emergencies.
  • Instruct patients and families according to a teaching plan established by a Registered Nurse.
  • Participate in unit staff meetings for problem-solving, planning, and improvement of patient care.
  • Assist in quality assurance activities.
  • Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas including prescription refills and durable medical equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned could include but are not limited to OB intakes, wound care, suture/staple removal, results reporting, weight checks, blood pressure checks, injections, catheter insertion and removal, voiding trials, and specimen collection.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services to provide high-quality, effective patient care.

  • Willingness to adapt to different populations, i.e., pediatrics, OB/GYN, and adult medicine, as patient demands.
  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability, for example, completion of work, mandatories, and goal setting within established timelines.
Nursing Specific Info

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

  • Graduation from an approved school for practical nursing is necessary.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan is necessary.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the last five (5) years) experience in ambulatory care.
  • BLS certification

Desired qualifications include greater than one (1) year LPN experience, ambulatory care LPN experience in Women's Health, experience performing New Patient Obstetric Intakes, and additional specialty GYN ambulatory care experience.

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 32 hours (0.8 FTE)

Shift/Hours/Days: Day shift (8-hour shift); Monday-Friday. Depending on patient and volume needs, hours and days may be variable (nontraditional, including further weekends/holiday commitments).

Location: Von Voigtlander OBGYN Clinic and other work locations as needed to support patient populations seen in different locations.

Modes of Work: Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.

Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.

Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
