Chief Executive Officer | Southeastern Museums Conference

The Southeastern Museums Conference is in search of a dedicated full-time Chief Executive Officer to lead and manage a prominent non-profit organization focused on the preservation and interpretation of regional history and culture. This role is pivotal in executing the organization's mission through community engagement, educational initiatives, and the stewardship of historical collections.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Executive Officer will oversee the daily operations, financial management, marketing strategies, and program development of the Southeastern Museums Conference. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Board of Directors to prepare agendas and documentation for meetings, ensuring effective project execution.
  • Managing financial transactions using accounting software, ensuring compliance with budgets and audits.
  • Supervising staff and volunteers in collection management and working with committees on acquisitions and cataloging.
  • Representing the organization at public events and maintaining partnerships with other cultural institutions.
  • Coordinating educational programs for various audiences, including schools and adult learners.
  • Planning and executing the annual calendar of events, including exhibitions and public programs.
  • Seeking external funding through grants and fundraising initiatives, managing donor relationships.
  • Overseeing membership campaigns and special fundraising activities.
  • Managing facility maintenance and ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Providing leadership and development opportunities for staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's Degree or higher in Museum Studies or a related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of museum policies and best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills applicable to diverse teams and public engagement.
  • A proven track record in fundraising and grant writing.
  • Familiarity with the local community and its cultural landscape.
  • Experience in non-profit management is advantageous.
