Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Financial Officer will oversee the financial operations of Alachua County Public Schools, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in finance and administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

(1) A Master's degree from an accredited institution in public administration, business administration, finance, or a related field; or a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline along with Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.

(2) A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, budgeting, or auditing, including supervisory roles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

In-depth understanding of Florida's educational finance laws, regulations, and district policies.

Proven ability to effectively manage and lead a team.

Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective relationships with staff and administrators.

Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Thorough understanding of governmental accounting laws and regulations.

Analytical skills to identify and resolve financial issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

(1) Direct and manage the financial operations of schools and departments.

(2) Oversee the financial activities of charter schools.

(3) Collaborate with division leadership to develop financial policies.

(4) Supervise finance personnel and coordinate business service activities.

(5) Ensure compliance with Florida Statutes and Department of Education regulations.

(6) Act as a liaison with auditors and various governmental agencies.

(7) Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports and records.

(8) Foster positive community relations and communicate financial matters effectively.

(9) Assist in the formulation of Board policies and administrative guidelines.

(10) Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts.

(11) Prepare necessary journal entries for account adjustments.

(12) Exhibit strong leadership and management skills to motivate staff.

(13) Employ strategic decision-making regarding financial planning and service evaluation.

(14) Conduct performance evaluations and recommend employment actions for finance staff.

(15) Adhere to Board Policies and promote ethical standards.

(16) Communicate district programs and policies to staff and the community.

(17) Engage with parents and community members to support district initiatives.

(18) Represent the district positively and professionally.

(19) Monitor compliance with applicable financial regulations.

(20) Stay informed of legal changes affecting financial responsibilities.

(21) Proactively identify potential issues and recommend improvements.

(22) Participate in professional development opportunities.

(23) Maintain expertise in financial management.

(24) Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data.

(25) Prepare Board agenda items related to financial responsibilities.

(26) Communicate effectively with stakeholders using sound judgment.

(27) Address inquiries and concerns promptly.

(28) Uphold high ethical standards in all professional interactions.

(29) Comply with safety standards and regulations.

(30) Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive financial matters.
