The University of Florida is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Curator/Associate Curator of Contemporary Art and Collections to join our team at the Harn Museum of Art. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development, management, and interpretation of the museum's contemporary art collection, encompassing over 2,000 objects of international art in all media.
Key Responsibilities- Collection Development: Develop and implement strategies for acquiring and managing the contemporary art collection, in consultation with the Director and Chief Curator.
- Exhibition Planning: Plan and execute exhibitions that showcase the contemporary art collection, in collaboration with the Chief Curator and Director.
- Research and Writing: Conduct original research and write scholarly articles, catalogue essays, and other publications related to the contemporary art collection.
- Collaboration and Community Engagement: Collaborate with museum staff, faculty, students, and community members to develop and implement programs and exhibitions that engage diverse audiences.
- Donor Relations and Fundraising: Cultivate and steward donor relationships and develop grant proposals to support exhibitions and programs.
- Collection Management: Refine the collection and make recommendations for acquisitions and deaccessions, in consultation with the Director and Chief Curator.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of the museum's overall strategic planning initiatives.
- Professional Development: Participate in national and international conferences and symposia to stay current with best practices and trends in the field.
The Harn Museum of Art is one of the nation's leading university art museums, employing approximately 50 full and part-time staff. The museum is a 112,800-square-foot facility, featuring 40,400 square feet of exhibition space, 5 garden spaces, a 250-seat auditorium, study center, museum store, café, and classroom spaces.
