We foster an environment where team members are encouraged to excel, recognized for their achievements, and empowered with a sense of ownership.

Position Overview

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in overseeing caregiver staff during their shifts, ensuring high-quality care for residents while adhering to the residence's philosophy. The CMA is responsible for the proper administration of medications in compliance with state regulations and Oaks Senior Living policies. This position involves delivering personalized care, responding to emergencies, and safeguarding residents' rights to safe and confidential treatment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a Senior Living environment.
  • Preferred supervisory experience in healthcare or service industries.
  • Must possess a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate.
  • Must hold a Georgia Certified Medication Aide Certificate.
  • Good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry is required.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Friendly and caring attitude with a passion for working with older adults.
  • Minimum age of 21 years and a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Physical examination by a licensed physician and a negative drug screen are mandatory.
  • Able to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care Services

  • Execute assigned duties effectively under the guidance of the Wellness Director and/or Executive Director. Supervise caregiver staff to ensure quality care and meet residents' needs.
  • Follow each resident's Negotiated Service Plan and report any changes in condition to the appropriate personnel.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls for assistance.
  • Seek guidance from the Executive Director or Wellness Director regarding medication administration or treatments when uncertain.
  • Assist with meal service and oversee caregiver staff in the dining area, ensuring cleanliness post-meal.
  • Implement infection control measures by adhering to standard precautions and proper waste disposal protocols.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and their families.
  • Address resident emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Help develop and maintain caregiver staff schedules that meet residents' needs and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Respond to workplace injuries in line with Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Complete required continuing education units (CEUs) biennially and annually as specified by the Alliant GMCF Registry.
  • Encourage teamwork and exemplify the Oaks Senior Living philosophy.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for staff to discuss concerns or grievances.
  • Keep CPR & First Aid certifications current.

Medication Management

  • Adhere to the six 'rights' of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right documentation) consistently. Verify these rights at three critical points: when retrieving the medication, just before administration, and immediately after.
  • Administer medications as per the Medication Observation Record (MOR) while ensuring resident privacy. Document all medication-related actions accurately following Oaks Senior Living policies.
  • Respect residents' rights to refuse medication and ensure their safety during administration. Clearly explain the purpose of medications to residents prior to administration.
  • Monitor residents for adverse reactions to medications and report any concerns to the Wellness Director or Executive Director without delay.

Communication

  • Participate in all staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
  • Effectively communicate residents' needs to caregiver staff during shift changes, following Oaks Senior Living policies. Report any changes in residents' conditions or concerns to the Wellness Director or Executive Director.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork related to resident care is completed and maintained accurately.

Reports to: Wellness Director, Executive Director, and Manager-on-Duty

To perform the essential functions of this role, employees must be capable of executing key physical tasks for extended periods. Employees should practice proper body mechanics and safety protocols when assisting or transferring residents. Typical physical demands include:
  • Standing or walking for up to eight hours daily, with sitting for up to two hours.
