Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a skilled Psychiatric Advanced Practice RN to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Your expertise will be invaluable in helping us deliver exceptional patient outcomes and promote a culture of excellence within our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide acute and long-term psychiatric care to individuals, including daily assessment and evaluation of mental health status.
2. Prescribe medications, including antipsychotics, and order laboratory and diagnostic testing as needed.
3. Conduct initial and ongoing assessments for individuals with identified acute and long-term psychiatric diagnoses, and develop and update treatment plans accordingly.
4. Lead Recovery Team Meetings and participate in court hearings as needed, serving as a liaison to the courts.
5. Conduct periodic reviews of hospitalized patients when on-call, evaluating reported changes in status or condition.
6. Develop and maintain accurate and timely documentation, including annual summaries and evaluations of assessments and compliance with policies and procedures.
7. Participate in the hospital-wide quality assessment and performance improvement program, performing audits of medical records and monitoring compliance with standards.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, including overseeing, planning, assigning, and/or supervising the work of others.
Requirements:
1. Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of psychiatric/nursing, including laws and ordinances governing mental health and hospital operations.
2. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical/psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment.
3. Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders, as well as supervise the work of others who provide psychiatric care and medical services as needed.
4. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications, and prepare and maintain medical records.
5. Ability to work productively with professionals and paraprofessionals as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, and work independently and be flexible in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
