Patient Access Coordinator

Job Summary
The Baptist Emergency Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and healthcare team members. This role requires excellent communication and organizational skills to facilitate patient tracking and billing.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including EMTALA, DNV, and HIPAA.
- Provide exceptional customer service by effectively meeting customer needs and building quality relationships.
- Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate with medical staff.
- Obtain and verify accurate demographic information to facilitate smooth processing through the revenue cycle.
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations as required.
- Maximize collection efficiency by pursuing collections at the time of service in a customer service-oriented fashion.
- Scan registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain medical records.
- Assist with coordinating patient transfers and responding to medical record requests.
- Maintain a clean working environment and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred.
- Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of various insurance plans and payors, required.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, strongly preferred.
