The Medical Assistant - Panel Specialist is essential in overseeing patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of clinic activities. This position is a full-time role, typically requiring 40 hours per week, predominantly from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts.
Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center is a non-profit organization committed to enhancing community health by offering accessible, high-quality services that integrate primary care, dental care, WIC support, mental health services, community health education, and more.
Compensation: $27.22 per hour, based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Reports directly to the Panel Specialist Supervisor, with additional oversight from the Clinical Team Supervisor and clinical guidance from the healthcare providers.
- Operates independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure proactive health management for a designated patient panel.
- Utilizes quality data dashboards to identify patients needing follow-up care and coordinates healthcare maintenance through established protocols.
- Handles incoming messages through the patient portal and manages laboratory service follow-ups.
- Coordinates refill requests and manages patient care inquiries received via the patient portal.
- Prepares necessary documentation for healthcare provider signatures based on patient health records.
- Updates patient charts during pre-visit preparations, ensuring accurate medication reconciliation.
- Facilitates communication with healthcare providers regarding lab results and follow-up actions.
- Implements clinical quality improvement initiatives, tracks diagnostic test results, and coordinates care plans.
- Provides basic clinical services, including administering medications and immunizations as directed by healthcare providers.
- Ensures timely and accurate electronic health record (EHR) entries and maintenance.
- Participates in team meetings and provides coverage for other Panel Specialists as needed.
- High school diploma or GED, or relevant trade certification.
- Certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant from an accredited institution is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in a Medical Assistant role is necessary.
- BLS certification is mandatory.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the community and service area is advantageous.
- Experience with medical data systems is preferred.
- Strong communication skills for effective patient outreach and documentation.
- Ability to engage diplomatically with patients and staff.
- Intermediate to advanced computer and phone skills.
- Understanding of confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Flexibility to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- Willingness to travel to various service locations as required.
