Job Overview

Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for executing a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a hygienic and welcoming environment. This role operates on a full-time schedule from 8am to 4pm, with designated days off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of floors through sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing.
  • Utilize machinery for carpet cleaning.
  • Maintain cleanliness of walls, vents, furniture, drinking fountains, and other fixtures.
  • Wash windows and glass doors, both inside and out.
  • Manage waste disposal by cleaning and emptying trash receptacles.
  • Ensure entryways are tidy and free of debris.
  • Sanitize restrooms and replenish necessary supplies.
  • Organize custodial storage areas as required.
  • Assist in the setup and arrangement of furniture for special events.
  • Change light bulbs within reach.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any hazards to management.
  • Complete maintenance requests for necessary repairs.
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways and entrances.
  • Perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing training to enhance job performance.
  • Participate in overtime and on-call duties as necessary.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
  • Assist with logistics during major relocations.
  • Clear snow and ice from campus pathways.
  • Support athletic and event setups as required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions relevant to the position.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Capable of following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Capable of standing and walking for up to 8 hours daily.
  • Comfortable climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel as required.
  • Proficient in using basic hand tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not include supervisory duties.
