About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Veterinarian to join our team at the University of Georgia. As a key member of our animal care and research program, you will be responsible for providing veterinary care and support to our research animals, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide veterinary care and support to research animals, including conducting medical procedures, performing surgeries, and managing pain control strategies.
  • Conduct veterinary reviews of animal research projects, including attending IACUC meetings and participating in inspections and site visits.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of animal care and research.
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop and implement clinical plans for their research animals, and provide veterinary services for fee.
  • Supervise and mentor veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students, and instruct veterinary, graduate, and undergraduate students.
Requirements
  • DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
  • Board eligibility or certification in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or related discipline.
  • Experience working with a variety of animals, including rodents, rabbits, ferrets, cats, dogs, farm animals, nonhuman primates, reptiles, and fish.
  • Supervisory experience, including directing employee activities and priorities and providing guidance and performance feedback.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, researchers, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • History with animal research laws and regulations and AAALAC International standards.
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in a state in the United States and the ability to gain licensure in the state of Georgia within 3 months of hire.
  • Enrollment and participation in the Occupational Health and Safety Program and maintenance of all required vaccinations or other required prophylaxis based on research being conducted at all facilities.
  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in an enclosed environment exposed to smells, dust, and dander of animals, and will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, such as combination of Tyvek jumpsuits, face shield, exam gloves, and fitted respirator or Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR).
