Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Financial Counselor to join our team at ChristianaCare. As a Financial Counselor, you will play a critical role in verifying insurance eligibility, preparing price estimates for ambulatory and hospital services, and communicating with patients via email and telephone prior to the date of service. You will also provide education on patient payment options and accept payments on patient accounts via cash, check, or debit/credit card.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify insurance eligibility and provide patients and healthcare providers with estimates.
  • Provide education on patient payment options and accept payments on patient accounts via cash, check, or debit/credit card.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and make return calls within prescribed time limits.
  • Verify insurance benefits via automated systems, telephone calls, and internal resources.
  • Calculate patient financial responsibility, taking into consideration co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, and type of procedure.
  • Collect payments before admission in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Perform accurately with attention to detail within specific times, while managing frequent interruptions and changes in workload.
  • Work in a team environment collaboratively with various departments.
  • Protect the integrity of the institution, patients, physicians, and employees by maintaining strict confidentiality of information.
  • Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Comply with relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Report problems and concerns to supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 2+ years of customer service work experience in a medical, health insurance, or financial institution.
  • Experience with insurance discovery and determination of patient out of pocket costs, including copayment and deductibles, is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills.
