We are seeking a proactive and experienced Reliability Engineer IV to enhance our manufacturing capabilities and ensure the longevity of our products.

Position Summary:

The Reliability Engineer IV will play a crucial role in assessing equipment life cycles and conducting analyses to guide investment and maintenance strategies for our assets. This position demands a production expert who can identify potential challenges and implement preventative measures to avoid production disruptions. The engineer will also focus on improving process efficiency and scalability to align with our ambitious growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate hypotheses and models (e.g., acceleration models) and validate them through experimental methods.
  • Design and oversee experiments aimed at enhancing the performance, reliability, and stability of thin film solar cells while minimizing manufacturing costs.
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis and characterize component degradation using techniques such as SEM/EDX, XRD, EL/PL, and other diagnostic tools. Present findings in a clear and organized manner.
  • Lead collaboration with certification and external laboratories (including PACT, NREL, Sandia, and academic partners) to secure necessary certifications for IEC or UL standards.
  • Develop training methods and instruct technical staff on building and testing devices for reliability, including:
    • Constructing small solar modules with a focus on encapsulation, framing, and reliability testing.
    • Instrumenting samples for accelerated testing under various environmental conditions and conducting outdoor assessments.
    • Characterizing solar modules through electroluminescence (EL) or photoluminescence (PL) imaging, light I-V testing, and infrared imaging.
  • Support the R&D Lab in developing innovative techniques and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with 1 year of experience, or M.S. with 4 years of experience, or BS with 8 years of experience in engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in laboratory testing and reliability assessments of electronic devices, particularly in solar photovoltaic technologies.
  • Strong understanding of probability, statistics, and experimental design, with familiarity in statistical analysis software such as JMP, Minitab, or R.
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages are highly desirable.
  • Excellent practical lab skills, capable of designing custom mechanical and electronic testing apparatus.
  • Demonstrated experience with failure analysis methodologies.
  • Able to navigate high levels of ambiguity and possess a forward-thinking approach to technology trends.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently within a complex organizational structure, coupled with exceptional communication skills.
